Dr Adekunle Hassan is the Founder & Chief Medical Director of Eye
Foundation Hospital Group which he founded as the first group
practice in eye care in Nigeria. As an internationally recognized
Consultant Ophthalmic surgeon (with wide experience and
specialization in Vitreoretinal, Glaucoma, Anterior segment,
Cataract and Oculo-plastic surgery), He is a recipient of several
lifetime achievement awards. He is the first Nigerian and African to
receive the prestigious International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO)
Mark Tso Golden Apple Award. The award is presented to leaders in
international ophthalmology for demonstrated innovation or
exceptional achievements in ophthalmic education. Dr Adekunle Hassan
is a Member, International Council of Ophthalmology Emeritus Group.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon, Glasgow, United
Kingdom, Royal College of Ophthalmology, United Kingdom and West
African College of Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the Nigeria
Institute of Cost Management.
Dr Adekunle Hassan’s exploits in the field of ophthalmology has
created a robust and sustainable infrastructure to drive his vision
to eliminate avoidable blindness in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.
The institutions he founded continue to set standards for quality
eye care and public-private partnerships for eye care in Nigeria. Dr
Adekunle Hassan has over 100 publications, scientific and research
papers to his name. He has received more than 90 academic,
professional, and society awards for his contribution to different
spheres of life. He was awarded the Rotary Paul Harris Award in
recognition of his contributions to the Rotary eye care projects in
Nigeria.

Dr Adekunle Hassan is a man with many caps; a world-class ophthalmic
surgeon, an astute businessman, a versatile professional, a global
citizen of distinction, a discreet philanthropist, and an
exceptional educator. He has played an active role in the corporate
world and has extensive corporate executive and non-executive
boardroom roles in healthcare, finance, and microfinance sectors
including; Diamond Bank Plc (now Access Bank Plc), Health Partners
Ltd, Deseret International Hospitals Ltd and Olabisi Onabanjo
University Teaching Hospital Management Board.

Dr Fatai Olabanji Oluyadi is an Anterior Segment and Cornea
Specialist. He is the Group Medical Director at Eye Foundation
Hospital. Dr Oluyadi is also an Ophthalmic tutor at the Kunle
Hassan Eye Foundation Academy. Dr Oluyadi earned his B.Sc. in
Physiology from the University of Ibadan in 1977 and continued his
medical education at the University of Calabar, graduating as one
of the pioneer medical doctors of the university in 1983.
He had his internship at the General Hospital Ijebu-Ode in 1983
and had 4 years general surgery experience in the same hospital
from 1984-1988. His training for the fellowship programme in
ophthalmology was at the University College Hospital Ibadan where
he was awarded a Fellowship of the Postgraduate Medical College of
Nigeria (FMCOph) and Fellowship of the West African College of
Surgeons (FWACS) in 1994.
He has conducted and participated in numerous ophthalmic
publications and presentations. He has also conducted numerous
surgical eye expeditions for Eye Foundation in collaboration with
numerous State Governments in Nigeria, Ghana, Rotary International
District 9110 and Lions International District 404. Prior to
joining Eye Foundation Hospital, he was a Consultant
Ophthalmologist at General Hospital Ijebu-ode and Abeokuta
(1993-2000), St Mary’s Catholic Hospital Ago-Iwoye (1993-1995). He
joined Eye Foundation Hospital in 1998.
He had his training programme on Cornea and Keratoprosthetics at
The Daljit Singh Eye Hospital Amritsar, India, Eye Foundation
Hospital under the guidance of Dr Kunle Hassan and Dr John Jastard
(a visiting instructor from USA) and L. J. Eye Institute Ambala
India - Dr. Vikas Mittal. Dr Oluyadi is a member of the
Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria, American Academy of
Ophthalmologists, Rotary international and Surgical Eye
Expeditions (SEE) – International Volunteer Eye Surgeons Group.

Dr. Adunola Ogunro is a Glaucoma specialist, graduated as a Medical
Doctor from University College Hospital Ibadan in 1986, earning a
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Her residency
training began at Ogun State University Teaching Hospital now
(Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital) in 1993. During this
period, she had clinical attachments in Eye Foundation Hospital and
University College Hospital Ibadan and became a Fellow of the West
African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 1999. Dr. Ogunro joined Eye
Foundation Hospital in 1999 as a Fellow at the James Standefer
Glaucoma Institute where she underwent her glaucoma fellowship
training.
She has attended several glaucoma workshops (including the James
Standefer Glaucoma workshop) and other training sessions locally and
internationally. She is a recipient of AFER ARVO Host Researcher
award from the United States of America (2008). Dr Ogunro undertook
Glaucoma observership & fellowship training at the New York Eye and
Ear Infirmary in 2011. Dr Ogunro’s surgical expertise include
Trabeculectomies limbal and fornix-based with 5-flourouracil with
and without releasable sutures; Combined phacoemulsification and
trabeculectomy; Combined ECCE with trabeculectomy; Laser
trabeculoplasty; Diode laser cyclophotocoagulation; Glaucoma
drainage devices implant; Bleb management surgery; Viscocanalostomy.
Her research interests include OCT parameters in Glaucoma patients;
Micropulse Laser Trabeculoplasty; Management of recalcitrant
glaucoma; Trans Scleral Laser Cyclophotocoagulation as primary
procedure; Micro-invasive Glaucoma Surgery. Dr Ogunro has presented
many scientific papers in many international conferences including
the World Glaucoma Congress and World Ophthalmology Congress and
published in various scientific journals. She is the founding member
of the Glaucoma Society of Nigeria and a member of American Academy
of Ophthalmology as well as Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria.

Dr. Ogugua Okonkwo is a graduate of Medicine from the University of
Nigeria. He completed his residency training as one of the pioneer
residents in Ophthalmic surgery at the Eye Foundation Hospital, with
the dual awards of a Fellowship and Diploma of the Royal College of
Surgeons Edinburgh and Royal College of Ophthalmology (UK),
respectively. His passion for vitreoretinal surgery early in his
career led him to complete his sub-specialty fellowship in
vitreoretinal surgery at the Eye Foundation Retina Institute with
significant accomplishments. He pioneered numerous surgical
techniques in Nigeria, resulting in his appointment as a faculty
member in the department.
As a member of faculty, he played a key role in the department's
evolution into a regional referral center for vitreoretinal surgical
services and a hub for hands-on training of surgical fellows and
residents. In his capacity as Programme Director, he actively
contributed to the training and supervision of numerous ophthalmic
residents and vitreoretinal fellows, many of whom have become
accomplished surgeons in the field. He has devoted a large part of
his career to advancing vitreoretinal surgery in Nigeria. His
interest lies in complex vitreoretinal surgery and alternative
cost-effective vitreoretinal techniques. He is involved in a project
aimed at improving access to vitreoretinal surgical services in
Africa. He has organized several teaching courses and has been
invited as faculty/speaker to many national and international
scientific courses and conferences.
Dr Okonkwo is the principal investigator for the Collaborative
Retina Research Network (CRRN). He has published over sixty
scientific papers in local and international journals and authored
book chapters. He is a peer reviewer for several scientific journals
(many of which are indexed on PubMed). He serves as an editorial
board member in 5 journals, including being the guest editor and
editor in chief of two ophthalmic journals. He is an active member
of the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria, the Vitreoretinal
Society of Nigeria, the African Retinal Society, the American
Society of Retina Specialist, the Arab African Society of Retina
Specialists, and the EURETINA. He is a member of the faculty of
surgical trainers (RCS, Edin.) His contributions at home and abroad
have earned him several awards, including the development in the
Nigerian Merit Award, the most outstanding ophthalmic surgeon of the
year, and most recently, the EURETINA Kreissig award, amongst
others.

Dr Olufemi Oderinlo is a foremost Consultant Ophthalmologist and
Vitreoretinal Surgeon. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University
Ile-Ife with a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
degree in 1993 and completed his residency training in 2002 as one
of the pioneer residents at Eye Foundation Hospital. He is a Fellow
of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, Member of the Royal
College of Ophthalmology, UK and Fellow of the West African College
of Surgeons (FWACS). He was trained at the prestigious Tennent
Institute of Ophthalmology, Western Infirmary-Glasgow, Scotland,
under Professor C.M.Kirkness and has attended several international
training courses across Europe, United States of America and Asia.
He has authored over 75 publications, academic seminars and
scientific papers and research work. As a clinical researcher, his
area of interest includes ocular neovascular diseases as well as
management and outcomes of retinal detachments. He is a resource
person for a number of post-graduate ophthalmology faculties
including the National Postgraduate College of Ophthalmology. He has
performed over 11,000 ophthalmic surgeries and laser procedures and
has attained high proficiency in Vitreoretinal surgeries and lasers
as well as suture-less Phacoemulsification.
He is the immediate past chairman of the Vitreoretinal Society of
Nigeria and a reputable member of many professional societies some
of which include: American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Royal
College of Ophthalmology of London, European Society of Retina
Specialists (EURETINA), African Ophthalmology Forum (AOF) and
Ophthalmology Society of Nigeria

Dr Mildred Ulaikere is an ophthalmologist with specialty in
Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She obtained her MBBS from
the University of Benin, Nigeria in 1992. She completed her
residency training at the University College Hospital Ibadan,
Nigeria where she obtained the fellowships in Ophthalmology of both
the National and the West African College of Surgeons (NCS & FWACS)
in 2003. She obtained a Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and
Strabismus at the Red Cross War Memorial Hospital for Children,
University of Cape town, South Africa in 2007.
Dr Ulaikere is very proficient in lensectomy with anterior
vitrectomy surgery for pediatric cataracts, angle surgery for
pediatric glaucoma, amblyopia management, surgery for simple and
complex strabismus in both pediatric and adult patients,
phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lenses of a wide range
for adult cataracts.
She is a member of the National College of Surgeons, West African
College of Surgeons and American Academy of Ophthalmology. She has
attended various scientific conferences locally and internationally
and has presented a number of papers. Dr Ulaikere is a winner of the
Novartis Excellence in Ophthalmology Vision Award.

Dr Abimbola Ashaye an Ophthalmologist and Laser Refractive Surgeon.
She graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife (OAU) with a
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MbChB) degree in 1998.
She did her postgraduate training in ophthalmology at the Eye
Foundation Hospital Lagos where she received her Fellowships of the
West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 2011 and the National
Postgraduate College of Surgeons (FMCOph) in 2010 as well as parts 1
and 2 of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO).
She is a keratorefractive surgeon specializing in Small Incision
Lenticular Extraction (SMILE), Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis
(LASIK) and Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) as well as Keratoconus
treatment. She also undertakes Cataract and other Anterior Segment
surgeries.
She is a member of the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN),
American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), European Society of
Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), and International Society
of Refractive Surgery (ISRS). Dr Ashaye has published papers in
journals and presented at local and international conferences.

Dr Tayo Bogunjoko commenced his ophthalmology career in 2004 as one
of the second batch of residents at the Eye Foundation Hospital. He
obtained a post graduate diploma in ophthalmology from the West
African College of Surgeons (WACS) and a Master of Science degree in
Public Health for Eye Care with specialization in Community Eye
Health from the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine (LSHTM), University of London. He is an alumnus of
International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH) in London. He is a fellow
of the Hilton Cataract Initiative (HCI) coordinated by the John
Hopkins University Dana Centre for Preventive Ophthalmology,
Baltimore USA and Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, India. He has also
obtained Membership of the West African College of Surgeons (MWACS).
Dr Bogunjoko has acquired vast experience in General Ophthalmic
Practice - (Community Ophthalmology, Cataract, Glaucoma and Medical
retina). He is involved in the training of Community Ophthalmic
Nurses (CONs) and Community Ophthalmic Technicians (COTs) at the Eye
Foundation Hospital for several years.
He is also involved in training of resident doctors and very
proficient in cataract surgery (SICS). He was appointed Consultant
Ophthalmologist in September 2010 and Assistant Director Eye Health
Systems and Training in 2012. He is a member of the Ophthalmological
Society of Nigeria (OSN).

Dr Akinye obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery,
MBBS from the University of Benin in 1998, and had his post-graduate
training at Eye Foundation Hospital where he obtained his
postgraduate fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons
(FWACS) in 2014. Dr Akinye is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon,
proficient in Small Incision Cataract Surgeries (SICS), Phaco,
anterior segment surgeries and glaucoma surgeries.
Dr Akinye is currently the Medical Director of Eye Foundation
Community Hospital at Ijebu-Mushin. He is actively involved in
training of Resident Doctors, Community Ophthalmic Technician,
Ophthalmic Nurses and post-fellowship Ophthalmologists in Small
Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS) and Phaco.
Dr Akinye is a member of Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN)
and National Postgraduate College of Surgeons. He has published
papers in journals and presented at local and international
conferences.

Dr Toyin Akanbi has a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery
(MBBS) degree from the University of Ibadan. She is a fellow of the
West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and National Postgraduate
College of Nigeria (FMCOph) (2008). She has a fellowship in medical
retina from the Eye Foundation Hospital (2012).
She is a member of Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN),
Vitreoretinal Society of Nigeria, African Retinal Society, American
Academy of Ophthalmology. She has several publications to her
credit.

Dr. Hassan-Oyewumi earned her Medical Doctor degree from the
University of Warwick Medical School. Additionally, she holds an
Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Kentucky State
University, and pursued studies in Public Health at the University
of Kentucky, and obtained a Master’s in Biomedical Services from
Barry University in the United States of America.
Dr Hassan-Oyewumi concluded her Foundation training at the North
London deanery and commenced her career in Ophthalmology at the
Luton and Dunstable hospital. She is a Fellow of The Royal College
of Surgeons Edinburgh (Ophthalmology), a Fellow of the International
Council of Ophthalmology, she is also a Fellow of College of
Ophthalmology Eastern, Central and Southern Africa. She is the
Clinical Instructor at Eye Foundation Hospital as well as the
Medical Director of the Vision Centre Program, a social initiative
of the Eye Foundation Community Hospital

Dr. Sunday Commando Maji pursued his medical studies at Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria, Kaduna State, from February 1999 to April 2006.
Following his graduation, he undertook the compulsory housemanship
training at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria,
Kaduna State, from June 2006 to June 2007. Subsequently, he obtained
permanent registration with the Medical and Dental Council of
Nigeria in July 2007.
He began his residency training programme in ophthalmology at
National Eye Centre Kaduna in February 2010. He completed the
residency training programme in October 2015 having passed the part
2 final fellowship exam of the West Africa College of Surgeons
faculty of Ophthalmology. He was awarded the Fellowship of the West
Africa College of Surgeons (FWACS) in February 2016 in Yaounde
Cameroun. He joined the services of Eye Foundation Hospital Group
having been employed as a Fellow Ophthalmologist on November 1st,
2017. He was appointed as a Consultant Community Ophthalmologist on
September 1st 2019, a position he has held to date. Dr Sunday
Commando Maji has additional qualification registration with the
Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria as a Specialist
Ophthalmologist.
He has been involved in several research work in Clinical
Ophthalmology right from when he qualified as an ophthalmologist
till date with the latest research work, he was involved in was
published in a journal in October 2023.

Dr Umeh Victor Chukwuebuka obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from
the University of Port Harcourt, River state Nigeria in 2012, and
had his postgraduate ophthalmology residency training at the Eye
Foundation Hospital.
He is fellow of the West African college of surgeons (FWACS), the
international council of ophthalmology (FICO), and a member of the
Royal college of surgeons Edinburgh (MRCSEd Opth).
He is currently undergoing vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the
Eye Foundation Retinal Institute and has a keen interest in retinal
diseases and its care for the African population.
