Dr Adekunle Hassan is the Founder, Chief Medical Director and Chairman of Eye Foundation Hospital Group establishing it as Nigeria's pioneering group practice in eye care.

Internationally recognized as a leading Consultant Ophthalmic surgeon with expertise in Vitreoretinal, Glaucoma, Anterior segment, Cataract, and Oculoplastic surgery, Dr. Hassan has garnered numerous excellence awards and lifetime achievements in ophthalmic education. He is the first Nigerian and African to receive the prestigious International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) Mark Tso Golden Apple Award. The award is presented to leaders in international ophthalmology for demonstrated innovation or exceptional achievements in ophthalmic education. Dr Adekunle Hassan is a Member, International Council of Ophthalmology Emeritus Group.

He is a Fellow of World College of Refractive Surgery, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, United Kingdom, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, United Kingdom, and the West African College of Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Cost Management, a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Management and also a Fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgery. Dr Adekunle Hassan’s exploits in the field of ophthalmology has created a robust and sustainable infrastructure to drive his vision to eliminate avoidable blindness in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. The institutions he founded continue to set standards for quality eye care and public-private partnerships for eye care in Nigeria. He has over 100 publications, scientific and research papers to his name. He has received more than 90 academic, professional and society awards for his contribution to different spheres of life. He was awarded the Rotary Paul Harris Award in recognition of his contributions to the Rotary eye care projects in Nigeria His other international and corporate portfolios include President, African Ophthalmology Council, Board Member, International Council of Ophthalmology, International Council of Ophthalmology Regional Advocacy Coordinator for Africa, Council Member International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, Member and African Representative on the AAO/ICO/WHO-sponsored Global Diabetic Retinopathy Classification Project and the Ophthalmology Society of Nigeria. He has played an active role in the corporate world and has extensive corporate executive and non-executive boardroom roles in healthcare, finance, and microfinance sectors including; Diamond Bank Plc (now Access Bank Plc), Health Partners Ltd, Deseret International Hospitals Ltd and Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Management Board. Dr Adekunle Hassan is a man with many caps; a world-class ophthalmic surgeon, an astute businessman, a versatile professional, a global citizen of distinction, a discreet philanthropist, and an exceptional educator.

Mr Olusegun Olusanya a graduate of the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science is a seasoned public official, banker and businessman. His distinguished career includes executive roles at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Afribank Nigeria Plc, and various banks. He has served on the boards of reputable companies such as Union Bank of Nigeria, Dangote Cement Plc, Meristem Securities Limited, and Health Partners Limited.

Professor Chris Ogbechie

Professor Chris Ogbechie is a Professor of Strategic Management and the Dean at Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University. He is also a visiting professor at Strathmore Business School, Nairobi, Kenya. Professor Ogbechie holds a first-class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester University, an MBA from Manchester Business School and a PhD in Business Administration from Brunel University, United Kingdom. He has vast experience in marketing, strategy and corporate governance derived from his work as Head of Marketing/Sales at Nestle Nigeria and his consulting work with Nigerian, Ghanaian and Kenyan firms over the years. While in Nestle, he held international positions in Malaysia, Singapore and Switzerland.Professor Ogbechie’s interests include, strategic planning and leadership, corporate governance and board effectiveness, corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility and has several publications in these areas. He has been involved with many private and public companies at the Board level including Diamond Bank Plc (Now Access Bank Plc), Red Star Express Plc (FedEx), National Salt Company of Nigeria Plc. (NASCON), Health Partners Ltd and Palton Morgan Holdings.

Mrs. Adetola Hassan is a registered nurse, a renowned manager, an entrepreneur and an astute administrator. She holds a Master’s in Public Policy Administration, a Graduate Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership and Management, both from the University of Missouri St. Louis, a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom as well as a Post-graduate Diploma in Public Administration from Caledonian University Glasgow, Scotland. For over thirty years, Mrs. Hassan has successfully held management leadership roles across various healthcare businesses including Deseret International Hospital, Health Partners Ltd, Summit Healthcare International Recruitment and Consulting, Summit Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Liahona Economic Development Foundation Nigeria, Parmalat Company, USA, as well as various Non-Profit organizations. She has participated in numerous international courses and workshops focused on cost management, earning multiple leadership awards that acknowledge her exceptional performance in various roles Mrs Hassan is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Cost Management, a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants and a Certified Member of the Institute of Public Administrators. She serves on the boards of Health Partners Ltd and Deseret International Hospitals Ltd. She also actively contributes to community service and philanthropy initiatives.

Vitreoretinal Surgeon | Board Member

Dr Olufemi Oderinlo is a foremost Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife with a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree in 1993 and completed his residency training in 2002 as one of the pioneer residents at Eye Foundation Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmology, UK and Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS). He was trained at the prestigious Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Western Infirmary-Glasgow, Scotland, under Professor C.M.Kirkness and has attended several international training courses across Europe, United States of America and Asia. He has authored over 75 publications, academic seminars and scientific papers and research work. As a clinical researcher, his area of interest includes ocular neovascular diseases as well as management and outcomes of retinal detachments. He is a resource person for a number of post-graduate ophthalmology faculties including the National Postgraduate College of Ophthalmology. He has performed over 11,000 ophthalmic surgeries and laser procedures and has attained high proficiency in Vitreoretinal surgeries and lasers as well as suture-less Phacoemulsification. He is the immediate past chairman of the Vitreoretinal Society of Nigeria and a reputable member of many professional societies some of which include: American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Royal College of Ophthalmology of London, European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA), African Ophthalmology Forum (AOF) and Ophthalmology Society of Nigeria.

Dr. Ogugua Okonkwo

Vitreoretinal Surgeon | Board Member

Dr. Ogugua Okonkwo is a graduate of Medicine from the University of Nigeria. He completed his residency training as one of the pioneer residents in Ophthalmic surgery at the Eye Foundation Hospital, with the dual awards of a Fellowship and Diploma of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and Royal College of Ophthalmology (UK), respectively. His passion for vitreoretinal surgery early in his career led him to complete his sub-specialty fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Eye Foundation Retina Institute with significant accomplishments. He pioneered numerous surgical techniques in Nigeria, resulting in his appointment as a faculty member in the department. As a member of faculty, he played a key role in the department's evolution into a regional referral center for vitreoretinal surgical services and a hub for hands-on training of surgical fellows and residents. In his capacity as Programme Director, he actively contributed to the training and supervision of numerous ophthalmic residents and vitreoretinal fellows, many of whom have become accomplished surgeons in the field. He has devoted a large part of his career to advancing vitreoretinal surgery in Nigeria. His interest lies in complex vitreoretinal surgery and alternative cost-effective vitreoretinal techniques. He is involved in a project aimed at improving access to vitreoretinal surgical services in Africa. He has organized several teaching courses and has been invited as faculty/speaker to many national and international scientific courses and conferences. Dr Okonkwo is the principal investigator for the Collaborative Retina Research Network (CRRN). He has published over sixty scientific papers in local and international journals and authored book chapters. He is a peer reviewer for several scientific journals (many of which are indexed on PubMed). He serves as an editorial board member in 5 journals, including being the guest editor and editor in chief of two ophthalmic journals. He is an active member of the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria, the Vitreoretinal Society of Nigeria, the African Retinal Society, the American Society of Retina Specialist, the Arab African Society of Retina Specialists, and the EURETINA. He is a member of the faculty of surgical trainers (RCS, Edin.) His contributions at home and abroad have earned him several awards, including the development in the Nigerian Merit Award, the most outstanding ophthalmic surgeon of the year, and most recently, the EURETINA Kreissig award, amongst others.

Dr. Feyi Hassan-Oyewumi

Board Member

Dr. Hassan-Oyewumi earned her Medical Doctor degree from the University of Warwick Medical School. Additionally, she holds an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Kentucky State University, and pursued studies in Public Health at the University of Kentucky, and obtained a Master’s in Biomedical Services from Barry University in the United States of America. Dr Hassan-Oyewumi concluded her Foundation training at the North London deanery and commenced her career in Ophthalmology at the Luton and Dunstable hospital. She is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (Ophthalmology), a Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology, she is also a Fellow of College of Ophthalmology Eastern, Central and Southern Africa. She is the Clinical Instructor at Eye Foundation Hospital as well as the Medical Director of the Vision Centre Programme, a social initiative of the Eye Foundation Community Hospital.

Adekunle Kunle-Hassan is the Founder/CEO of Summitech Computing Limited, a digital agency (software development, digital marketing, software testing and IT infrastructure) based in Nigeria. Summitech has built bespoke products for notable organizations such as Multi-choice Africa, Nubian Skin, Ebony Life, FilmHouse, Sankore Investments and Enaro Energy, as well as planning and upgrading IT infrastructure for organizations such as Eye Foundation Hospital and Health Partners HMO. Mr Kunle-Hassan has a degree in Global Management from Regent Business School London and he is a software product manager by profession. Over the last 10 years, he has been building software products with agile and has worked on projects in eCommerce, energy, entertainment and medicine as both a product manager and software engineer. His most recent projects include Nubian Skin’s new online store and Indigo, an electronic medical record and hospital management system. His interests include Machine learning / AI, blockchain and healthcare. In 2019, he was nominated as a leader in business at the Future Awards Africa.
